Years ago, I held a 90wpm certificate for writing shorthand, which in those days wasn't actually considered THAT fast, but if i did it now I expect i could impress a few people ..... but I cant! The skill has long gone; and yet I'm using a form of shorthand when I text.
So the question I'm asking, has to be: when is it ok to use text talk and when isn't it?
I must confess, I have to keep myself in check when I send emails , and resist the temptation to use the simplist text talk like ... lol ... gr8 ... 2moro! Jimmy Young on radio 2 many moons ago, used to sign off with TTF (ta ta for now) - I wonder if he realised how soon the world would follow? haha
Newspaper reports have revealed that kids are using the abbreviations in their school work (much to the annoyance of the teachers!). Now this i can understand isn't probably the right place, but I can see a time when its commonplace to use it in letters & reports. So long as we all understand it ... what's the problem!?
So ... C U 2moro wiv my nxt blg thn! lol
